Diamond painting is a form of mosaic art. It is similar to cross-stitching or paint-by-numbers, and anyone can learn how to do it. You can “diamond paint” by yourself to unwind, or you can do it as an activity with the whole family. You literally stick little diamond-like gems, technically called resins, onto the canvas, and you end up with a beautiful, sparkling work of art.
What is the difference between full drill & partial drill?
With a partial drill kit only some of the canvas is covered with the drills. Some of the canvas will have a picture printed on it which the drills do not cover. There will only be a few sections which will actually be covered by drills. A full drill kit will have the drills covering the whole of the canvas picture. I prefer these to the partial ones but it is all preference.
Because it does not need a lot of thought, diamond painting is a fantastic stress reliever. Unlike other crafts, diamond painting does not require you to solve problems or master complicated techniques. However, it provides you with something to concentrate on with expectation. It’s a fantastic way to relax after a long day.
Square Versus Round Diamonds
Another choice you have is whether your diamonds are square or round. This is going to determine the outside shape of the diamonds. In addition to square and round, there are special shapes as well, so you have choices.
Square diamonds give you a complete look without any gaps between the diamonds. They are easier to place because they fit one next to the other, but they require more effort to get perfectly straight lines. The round drill diamonds are easier to pick up and apply. They stick to the diamond tool or pen well, and the art looks great when you are finished. However, there are small gaps between the diamonds, which you can see when you look closely at the painting.
What size kit should I get?
If you have never done these before I would suggest to start with a smaller partial kit to get used to it. You will very quickly be addicted and want to try something bigger. When it comes to the size of the canvas bigger is always better as you will get more details. Some smaller kits don't get the pictures details very well so if you want detail go bigger. A good size is 40x50 but I also stock some 30x40. I sometimes will stock bigger kits and can always order bigger if you like.
